Change

AsĀ another year winds down, moments of reflection become more frequent. Looking back on this year brings so many awesome memories but most of all, the changes that occurred are the most memorable. I changed my marital status (from married to divorced), jobs, career tracks, housemates, my wardrobe, my home decor, my inner circle and my goals. Though these were all very major aspects of my life, the biggest change occurred in a space that no one could see–my mind. At this time last year, I was in deep reflection mode. I realized that my marriage would not last and as I emerged from a thick emotional haze, I realized that I was not happy about the course of my life. I didn’t like my job, I wasn’t sure who to trust, I felt totally alone and I hardly recognized myself. I took the Christmas holiday as an opportunity to go into my cocoon and evaluate my next steps. I made some decisions and started to consider some things I thought were no longer possible.

IĀ also went on to complete a vision board (above) earlier this year as a family project with my cousins. This exercise truly showed me that I had forgotten (or never really knew) who I was. I remember cutting out things that interested me but when I laid the clippings out on the board so that I could glue them on, I was in shock. Most of what covered my board were countries of the world! The careers represented were not any that I was currently pursuing. Everything was so different (click picture to enlarge). Little did I know that I would be too.

As you reflect on this year and make plans for 2014, try your best to change your mind about something (anything!). If you want a leaner body, commit to thinking differently about your relationship with food and being healthy rather than going on a diet or fast to lose some weight. If you are not pleased with your relationships, think about what you can do to change your approach rather than pointing the finger. Any changes we make in life begin with our mindset being changed. It can be as simple as visualizing (and speaking) something that does not yet exist. You have the power within you to create the reality you desire. God and the rest of the world are waiting to see it manifest!
